Well after digging around a bit I found out this generator is still being made, under a new name- "Duromax". It is sold by Maxtools online and is still being sold on Ebay, where I purchased mine. Parts are available through them. I had assumed and hoped that all these Chinese gensets were made by the same company with different badges on them so parts would be interchangeable and easily obtained, but I see from this thread that is not the case.
This generator is also rated 4400 surge/3500 constant with the same engine as the others. I have to wonder if it really puts out this much juice. I will say it always starts right up and has performed when needed. I guess I have to spend a few bucks for the RV adapter now.

Lee,
There are hundreds of Chinese companies that build similar generators. But there are now only a few that can import into the US due to EPA regulations and bonding requirements.
Before the current regulations went into effect there were dozens of Chinese companies that would paint their product any color you wanted and apply any name. All you needed to do was pay up front for at least a 1/4 container full of them. These units were often sold on e-Bay under various names with a 1 yr. warranty. Unfortunately, the warranty was from the manufacturer and required returning to them if problems occured (in China). The e-Bay vendors disappeared as soon as the current lot they purchased was sold.
Jiangsu Jiangdong Group Imp&Exp Shanghai Co.,Ltd, better known as JD Power Equipment, was (and still is) one of the largest exporters of rebranded generators like the PowerMax and MaxTools. They are approved by the EPA for USA import and carry many different names. I am almost positive your generator was built by JD.
Of course, there are many models and styles of alternators attached to JD engines and features may vary widely. Parts can be found but it requires some digging through Internet parts suppliers and sometimes the ability to speak Chinese. Surprisingly, parts can actually be ordered directly from China with a credit card or PayPal and received in about a week. I have ordered from Chinese vendors and have been amazed at the speed they ship.
Take care of it like SonicLogic advised and it should take care of you for a long, long time.
Professor- Thanks for the info and I will take care of it. I found the manual hidden away in the garage and it has a parts list and a support phone # from Maxtools. Great thread.
Soniclogic- I found out the hard way about the ethanol issue in my Yamaha ATV. After only about a month of non use the carb was clogged. Cost me 185.00 to get it cleaned out, the tech knew what it was as soon as I told him the symptoms, they see this all the time. Ethanol in power equipment = bad news and if you must use it use the blue marine grade Stabil. Thanks guys. -Lee
