There is a lot of air turbulence in the bed of a pickup truck at speed. It’s possible that at certain speeds, air rushing over the vented gas cap of the generator can cause a vacuum that will interfere with the normal flow of gas to the carburetor. I’ve seen winds from strong storms cause small generators to stop.
