That is a whole new can of worms. I often hear this, but it is a MYTH and totally untrue. Actually, using premium fuel in a low compression engine causes a slower fuel burn and can contribute to MORE carbon build-up. Premium has additional anti-knock properties for higher compression engines or engines with a lot of ignition advance. Our GX200 Chonda engines have a 7.5 to 1 compression ratio and are designed to run on 85 to 87 octane gasoline. Anything higher is a waste of money and could actually be harmful to your engine.
