That tank is seam welded further in where you can see the ripples, not at the edge. I'm sure it's not leaking nor is an issue. Many automotive gas tanks are seam welded the same way.

Where did you get this deal? I too live in Calif and can only buy a CARB approved generator. For $238, I can afford that to play with. Can't find one less than $299 though and they are not Calif approved.

2 updates to my post. I have just learned that the company that I bought this gen from are no longer selling/shipping to California. I hope they didn't get beat up too badly by the CARB cops. Quite frankly, I was so excited to see the price/shipping combo that I didn't pay attention to the fact that it was not a CARB/compliant model.
I also took the gen down to Champion in person yesterday in Santa Fe Springs. They are going to replace the tank and the ignition switch. I have to say, these guys are the most professional personable group of guys I have ever met. The whole operation is A++!!! Very seldom do you come across a company that dedicated to customer service and good product.
