Well, I've read this thread for near four years now. Found long ago the portable gensets have no UL approval to my knowledge.

All I know is my Champion C46540 sits at rest 'peacefully' in the genhouse because it's now said to be unsafe for use. Shouldn't Champion (CPE) do something about this unsafe problem?
Interesting point. Do any portable gensets have or need UL approval? My knee jerk is no. They produce power, not consume it. Maybe we need UL approval for all the electronics in our cars and trucks?
No one said it was unsafe for use. Just like not running a generator indoors, smoking while filling with gasoline, sticking your fingers in an outlet or failing to add oil there are certain safety and operational cautions we need to be aware of and follow. You know the old saying - prevention is worth a pound of cure. CPE DID do something about the possible failure of the AVR - they added a module to cut off the engine if it occurs. I hate to think what we would be paying for portable generators if there was a company recall for every thing that was changed or improved to be added to older models.
Come on Floyd - the sun is shinning, you have friends, the world is changing and somehow we manage to wake up every morning and put both feet on the floor. It could be a lot worse. Your toaster could electrocute you, your refrigerator could spring a leak and overcome you with poison gas, your furnace (if you have one) could malfunction and spew carbon monoxide into the room, you might find mercury or radiation in your water, your food could contain dangerous pesticides ............ Why worry about a darn generator?
Prof,
Please don't worry about Old & Slow. In my 78th year and as I look back there is Praise to the Gods for escaping the above mentioned possibilities, plus acts of God of which I have no control. You say "why worry about a darn generator"? Well it's not just a generator, it's a Champion generator. It's been my pride and joy.
That is why after looking over some of the quality parts found yesterday, I decided, something about the AVR failure possibility, might be overcome. So at the momnent, it's at rest, peacefully.
Thnaks for hanging in there with the Old & Slow.
What about a duel AVR? Nother quesation. The Generator Guy of long ago stated, for the C46540 the AVR is on Leg-1 only?
