Dr - I Like it! You did a great job in designing the carrier so that you could retain the wheels. I hope you have some help lifting it on and off the carrier even if it can be done from the bed of the truck.
Leaving the wheels on was a must for me since the generator is used at home for emergency power and other non-RV related uses. I want it easy to move around by the DW and DS. The platform can stay on the bottom of the gen full time if we wish. I can still use the handle and wheel kit just the same. The only catch (pun intended) is the 2" shank sticking out the side.
I hung the gen by standing in the bed of the truck. It made it pretty easy. I have a young and strong back. However,I can easily see how somebody would want help lifting it. It's not light.

Also, consider installing a "cord hatch" door on the front or side of the fiver in the area of the basement. It can be in a door or the wall itself. I had to add one to mine for the LPG house.
The factory cord hatch door is on the side next to the side basement storage door. I was planning to add a cord hatch door inside the basement in the wall between the basement and factory cord storage area. This would give me a convenient way to run the shore cord out into the basement where the gen cord would be waiting for it.
Is this what you were referring to or did I completely miss the ball??
