31' Rexhall '01 Ford Chassis Annoing Alarm !

Out of the clear blue, and for no apparent reason, a very hi pitched alarm will go off from under the dash some where.
I can usually stop it by turning the ign sw on and back off again.
But yesterday I had to disconnect the chassis battery cable to stop it. It never sounds when the ign sw is on.
Anyone know where that alarm mite be, or which wire I can cut to disable it ?
Thanks

  • Thanks Doug,....so I'm heading for the headlite switch
The battery cable is still disconnected. I'll get serious about this in the next day or so.
If I can't figure it out, and can't silence it w/ the ign sw on, I sure hope I can't hear it at 60 mph !! I only have 1200 miles to get back home in a couple months :)

    Thanks all.
It does it at home too, level pad, no jacks extended.
I'm going for the airbags first, as I have never had an air hose on them, because it rides nice and level.
Then I'll play w/ the headlite switch. Finding the cause, would be better,....and maybe easier than disabling it.

Ford/Chevy Air bags have NO alarm or alarm sensor at all, so it is NOT your air bags. Doug

  • If you have Power gear jacks it could be low fluid usually happens when you turn a corner.
  • NOT common problem. Nobody will be able to tell you what and where the alarm module is, You will need to do what any shop would have to do----When it sounds, you will have to either pull the Dash Instrument speedo cluster for behind dash access or bend under the dash with a flashlight and use your ears to pinpoint the module that has the alarm. From your description, it MUST be a Ford chassis part. UNLESS, you have leveling jacks and they are extended. BUT, that jack alarm would come on when the Ignition is on. Sooo, next time it happens cycle the Ignition key to get it off and then turn the Ign key back ON and see if you get the same alarm if you have Jacks and they are extended. The next item may be the Headlight ON alarm when the Key is turned off. Some model Fords have a problem with the Headlight module. So, turn on the headlights and leave key off and see if you have that same alarm going off. Long shot is if you are not the original owner, the previous owner/s might have added some type of system that has an alarm. Doug
  • Is your rig still level?? When the air bags were giving out (meaning, they failed) on ours, it made that same kind of irritating noise. Same one it would make if you try to drive off without the airbags inflated (or was it deflated?) Otherwise, I have no clue.
