4th Slide motor

Just got home from a trip a couple of weeks ago and slide worked fine on the trip...No sounds or anything else indicating a problem...When we got home we put slide out to empty MH and then put it back in...again no apparent problem noticed or sound indicating a problem...Then couple of days ago, my wife needed something in the Bdrm and went out to put slide out...and wouldn't go out...MH was plugged in so wasn't batteries...Took MH to dealer here and got call saying the "bushings" in the motor was bad...
This is the 4th motor for this slide...It is not like we are always putting slide in and out so use is not heavy...
Looking for any thoughts as to why this may be happening...getting frustrating...and expensive...Thankfully the 1st 2 times I had warranty which covered all but $50..but this time about $900..
all thoughts appreciated...

  • If it really is the 3rd motor to go bad, wouldn't we have to think the motor is being overloaded ? I think you need a better technician that would check the amperage draw against the ID plate. And if it is over amping, it needs a bigger HP motor.
In the meantime, I would hot wire 12 volts directly to the motor, see what happens
  • I can understand your frustration.
I don't know that I buy the "bushings" diagnosis. Did they actually remove or uncover the motor and look at it?
I would try this, unplug the RV so it's running solely on battery.
Turn on some lights and then press the slide switch. Do the lights dim slightly?
Yes = Bushing thing is possible (still not likely though).
No = The motor isn't even getting power and the bushings aren't coming into play. Could be something as simple as a loose wire or bad switch.

Either way, if your not comfortable working on this yourself then I would have an independent shop or mobile RV tech work on it.

The $900 figure sounds like the dealer doesn't know whats wrong and is just making sure he makes money no matter what it needs.
