Really? You've seen a 4 gauge wire wrapped around a screw?
Id have to see the test numbers to be convinced crimped is significantly better, because the good screw terminals with a hole (some even have a tongue under the screw) put allot of pressure on the wire and rebuildable and visual is a plus for me. That's why I'm trying to find a well built fuse block. Not some Chinese junker which strips out when I tighten it the second time.
Yea, the Noalax has been in my tool box for 30 years and wires I treated back then still are corrosion free. couple three.
You guys think shrink wrap seals a compression connection from the elements? Iv pulled apart a few motorcycle shrink wrapped crimped connections and seen more which were flaky and green causing lots of problems. I would have to say shrink wrap only protects from a short but holds moisture inside if it gets wet.
Want the best? solder it. - mapguyExplorerx3
Corrosion and reliability are why to use crimps and heat shrink. Especially near batteries. The car stereo units shown that just clamp the wire will need periodic maintenance to keep corrosion at bay -using something like Noalox Compound. Di-electric grease would be a poor choice too.

- MrWizardModeratorthe ony 'screw terminals' that are good are 'terminal blocks' where the wire is inserted in a hole
great for residential and industrial buildings
but they leave the wire exposed to air, dc power in RV's the connections around batteries or moisture 'corrode'
and just sticking a wire under a screw head is a 'not so good idea' - rerodExplorerWhy are ring terminals better than a good screw terminal for raw wire?
I can see that expensive crimper sitting on my dusty shelf for long periods. - RoyBExplorer IIThis is the first I did when starting to re-do my battery cables and adding fuse blocks, terminal blocks, etc. Everything uses the ring terminals as the should. I figured working with DC battery cables was be something i would be working so why not get up to speed of making up all of my DC battery cables.
I use ANCOR brand marine quality battery cable and ring terminals

Never looked back...
Roy Ken - Oh they sell the ring terminal and heat shrink to seal it up.
Probably need a crimper rated for #4 though. A crimp tool for a hammer or vise is fairly inexpensive or about $60 at Harbor Freight will get you a nice hydraulic crimper. - rerodExplorer

Thanks everyone..
I was just about to order this one.. Not sure why, but I figured the plastic was a better grade being marine.. But then noticed it was designed for ring terminals..
I DON'T have ring terminals.. Just raw 4 awg wire..
I guess I better go with the scorpion even though the plastic looks more brittle. - buzzard616Explorer
