7.5 Generac no start

I have a Generac 7.5KW on my '01 Tradewinds and I have gone thru several starters. When you start it, it cranks over very slowly and then doesn't start. It doesn't matter if you hit the fuel switch first,or not, and no difference. I tried jumping it to no avail. I have cleaned all the terminals I could find and it still won't work. Last time I had it fixed, they said it was drawing 300 amps and that sounded kinda high for that little diesel. Sometimes the big breaker on the breaker panel will pop and when you go to reset it, it is VERY hot. Is it possible that the breaker is going bad? I'm also thinking about disconnecting the battery leads and connecting a battery charger to it and trying to start it from the gennie panel itself.
Every once in awhile tho,it'll surprise me and start when I push the button, #####.

  • Oh, by the way, a glow plug could be bad, causing you to run the starter longer. Thereby burning it up.
You can test the glow plugs with a meter in resistance
  • Sorry, your starter is bad.
Found a replace for 100 online.
Do you have the QuietPack 75D.
My generac has many hours on it

    That isn't a repair.
That is putting a fresh bandaid on a leaking artery.
    It isn't really fixing anything.
  • The first couple of starters were OEM and then Cenerac gave the tech the number of an aftermarket starter, because they wouldn't replace mine under warranty any more. The aftermarket ones were "lifetime" warrantied starters. The shop was an authorized shop.
I'm still thinking about changing out the circuit breaker,or at least getting it tested.I finally have an aftermarket warranty and that has covered the last couple of repairs on it.:B :B

    From different vendors?

Fuel injector timing a mere few degrees too early can be compared to the Ford Model T.

The driver forgets to RHEEEEEE-TARRRRD the spark and when he spins the crank handle the engine coughs and tosses him over the trunk. I dealt with this a lot when customers complained of battery or starter problems. A Cummins for instance can draw 1,000+ amps if the PT injector pump is mis-timed.

Take the Genny-Rack to a genuine diesel guru who REBUILDS INJECTOR PUMPS. Yes they exist and yes they are back logged many times. My GM 6.2 diesel only drew 310 amps, at around 60F. Your generac figures are absurdly high.
  • Does it have a momentary compression release on it to get things turning ?

When "they fixed it", what did they do ??

Diesels have high compression, big starters and draw high starting current; that's just the way they work.

They turn over even harder if an injector leaks raw fuel into a combustion chamber when it's off.
