A &E awning motor malfunction

I have a One Step A&E awning that has decided not to work. All arms are free and loose but it acts like its binding as it tries to open. The motor goes for a little bit then slows down and stops. I think the controller might tell it to stop thinking it's all the way in or out, but of course it's not. Either the motor is going out or the awning is binding somewhere I can't see, maybe inside the tube? Anyone an expert in how these things can be troubleshot?

  • Good idea. I know where the pigtail is at the motor so I will connect there. I guess though I still don't know that I'll be sure it's the motor or something binding in the tube itself. I really don't know what's in an awning tube. I thought it was a spring. If it is couldn't it be the problem? It has trouble going in and out though it seems to have more trouble going out.
  • The motot should have plug in electrical wires on it . You can unplug them and make up some identical wires and terminals and see if the awning works off a regular battery. By bypassing all the wiring and controls if it works you will know it is in the wiring or controls. If it does not work you will know it is the motor or it is binding up and " amping out ". Thenyou have to go from there.
