About As Technical As It Gets...

I've heard physicists compare this situation to painting a window black. The first coat doesn't do a good job, coat number two is better, but coat number 10 is a waste of time and paint. CO2 absorption is like that it increases to a maximum and then no matter how much you add beyond that point, you don't get more absorption. The bands are saturated.

Back in the 1950s, physicists measured transmissions of various wavelengths through our atmosphere. The CO2 molecule absorbs infrared radiation at two specific wave bands. The long wave (LWIR) band, around 14.5-15.5 microns, is the more significant of the two since it is the band where most of earth's heat energy is radiated (and it's 5 times as wide as the MWIR band which CO2 absorbs). Those 1950s measurements found 100% absorption of this band over 300 meters distance in our atmosphere. In other words, 100% (all) of the heat energy that CO2 can absorb is absorbed in only 300 meters at sea level.

The idea that adding CO2 to our atmosphere could increase absorption of IR (heat) radiation has thus been disproven over 60 years ago, for one cannot obtain more than 100% absorption.

This article just made my brain hurt, as does this discussion. I've had a tough day at work dealing with faulty computer code. My brain is dead tonight. You all figure this one out and I'll just read your results.

We are not talking about boring an open 3000 ft hole. We are talking about forcing CO2 3000 ft down and into rock pores.

Better do a little work on geology fundamentals. Bore a hole and get a pressure gusher? Some South African mines are 1+ miles underground. Tunnels are exposed to that much latent wall energy? Hmmmmm...
