AC left on?!

I'm really worried now that I got home and discovered that the thermostat was set to "on". Could the AC have kicked on while we towed? Could this have damaged the unit?

While I'm at it, why does my propane detector beep as if disconnected from power, also while towing? Does the car not provide any juice to the trailer systems? I know the battery is basically useless.

Thanks!

The battery is used while driving to provide power to the brakes if it disconnects from the TV as well as providing most of the power to run fridge electronics/propane detector. By the sounds of it your battery is pooched anyway.

Time to spend a little more time on here researching what all those things in your rig run on and actually do.

BTW what kind of rig with an a/c unit are you towing with a car?

AC will only work while connected to shore A/C power. You will have to test to see if your Tow Vehicle is supplying power to your trailer. If it wasn't equipped with a tow package, then someone would have to run a power wire. If it does have a tow package, sometimes a relay or fuse needs to be installed.

Ok thanks. The wiring was installed second hand, by Uhaul. Not exactly sure what they did except that it's a 7 pin.

Would it be worth adding to run the fridge? I'm not totally confident that it runs correctly on propane.

If this is a trailer and you don't have a generator running, the A/C thermostat set to "ON" wouldn't have much effect. There'd be no 120-VAC power to cause compressor or fan to run.

A Furnace, YES. It operates on 12VDC and would light if the LPG was turned on. If the LPG is off, then the fan would run off the coach battery till it died, unless you have a charging line.

LPG detector - Not sure about this one. Furnace attempting to light and not lighting would release a little LPG but most would go outside. Low trailer battery voltage could set it to beeping. Some will do that once past a certain age.
  • Your a/c won't kick in, it needs shore power or a generator. If the propane detector is beeping, you either have a leak which needs to be addressed pronto or more likely it's battery is dying. If the latter the detector needs to be replaced, they have a shelf life. The expiry date should be on it.
  • No. No. How would you hear it? I don't know. Why is the battery useless? ( oh yeah, basically)
