If bumping up the threshold from ~102v to ~104v makes you feel better protected, by all means go for it.
IMO, the concern is not warranted. There is no magic threshold (I.e., 102v, 104v, 106v, etc.) where MTBF's suddenly increase or decrease to a significant degree for the vast majority of consumer appliances---it's very gradual. If there was a magic threshold, it would be well documented, widely recognized, and most importantly, standardized.
