At the same time you're doing that, it helps to add a vacuum breaker / backwash preventer valve on the "other tasks" side. That way, you're protected from anything you do on that side from potentially polluting your city water input feed!

Had a small drip from the hose at the city water inlet. The above 90 degree brass fitting took care of that. I make sure to have as little weight as possible be on there, just the hose.

Right the shut off, we have one of them cheap plastic valves on the end of the hose so its only one trip to the park's water valve and we can flush out the hose before hook up. Its also quicker to shut the water off in case of a leak or you are going away from the RV

For past 7 yrs...city water and black waste tank flusher connections have had a 90* elbow AND a shut-off valve on them.
I leave them in place.

The 90* adapter does not actually take any weight off the fitting (in fact adds a little).
What it DOES do is eliminate the torque (twisting action) applied by the weight of the hose sticking straight out from the side of the unit.
IMHO A GOOD idea!!
The alternative is to provide a support for the hose a little distance out from the connection.

Good advice above on the 90 deg elbow. BTW, those city water inlets are very easy to replace, they're all the same thread size but can be male or female on the backside so check which one you have. They make better ones that are brass internally instead of all plastic like my original inlet was (which I broke too). Very easy job provided to have access to the back of the inlet. Should not have to drill any new holes in most cases.

We leave the 90º elbow on the RV all the time with the thought that it saves the plastic connector from the constant use. Its easier and less wear and tear to hook the hose to the elbow. Even easier if you use a quick disconnect (the good all brass type)

Yep 90 degree will do it nicely. The "shear" strength of the connection is far greater than a horizontal. Think of leverage of anything , the longer the lever the more the pressure.

I think it because you are eliminating the leverage action that is otherwise taking place. Waduyathink ?
