I just fail to understand why California does not offer substantial tax incentives to industries friendly to the environment - like Lithium battery manufacturing. Why do my AA and AAA lithium batteries come from Indonesia? Yuppies don Nike products then march in protest of Asian industries using child labor that manufactures (Nike Shoes).

I think I'll console my bafflement with a plate of tacos...

They also tack on a $2 charge on every tire sold. ALL for recycling and clean up. They also tack on a LARGE fee if no battery trade in. $10 on group 24 series. It goes by the battery size. It is to get them back for lead recycling. $18 core charge on a standard Auto battery. You get the $18 back IF you bring a core in later. Doug

Where does the lithium come from, Not the USA
Certainly not Calif
Shipping the raw mined ore from China to the U.S.A. Would be prohibitly expensive
What about refining, is it hazardous, Calif is the most proactive environmental state in the union

Import lithium ingots. China flies humongous cargo planes across the Pacific for little or no shipping charges. A freighter can carry a lot of refined lithium. A freighter can also carry a lot of abused lithium back to China to be recycled.

Lead, is also not one of the 7 crucial dietary supplements.

The problem with China is the Make Money At Any Cost syndrome. They have half of Korea and 10% of Japan supervising a select number of companies production for a reason. I'd rather pay $300 for a Lifeline battery than $150 for A Chinese clone that will not last a third as long.
