Awing Cleaner

What do I need to use to keep the black mildew looking stuff off the white parts of my awing? I have used a lot of the stuff that the dealers sell as well as a lot of stuff that Wal Mart sells, and all of it works well, but the black stuff seems to get back of there real quick, plus I keep my trailer under a carport...thanks

I use a mixture of Dawn liquid dish detergent, Bleach, Simple Green, water and spray it on using a garden sprayer then roll it up for 20 - 30 minutes then unroll and rinse. If real bad I rub with the wash brush before rinsing and sometimes if it was really bad I repeat the process. Either way I let dry thoroughly before rolling back up. :)

This absolutely works great. The only addition I would make is to make a solution of water and dandruff shampoo and wet the entire awnining with it - rolling it up and out to get a good coating on it. Then let it dry and roll up. A friend's daughter (more or less) told him about researchers in the tropics coat all their stuff with it and it really keeps the mold and mildew down. It apparently has great mold inhibitors in it and I swear by it. duh1 - still learning.
  • +1 for the Tilex Mold and Mildew Remover. I have used Lysol Mold and Mildew remover as well. I like it better, but have not been able to find it this year. I just spray it directly on the awning. By the time I am finished spraying, the first part is all clean. I rarely have to scrub anything. Just rinse afterwards and get it all off. Once at the beginning of the season and then try to put the awning up dry the rest of the season seems to do the trick.
  • Tilex Mold and Mildew remover. I soak a sponge mop with the cleaner, soak the underside of the awning with the mop, roll up the awning for about 15 minutes then unroll and rinse. I usually have to work on a couple of stubborn spots but this is the easiest way I have found to date.

  • Unroll it. Using a garden sprayer with 10% bleach / water solution and a couple squirts of dawn, spray underside of awning real good till soaked. Roll it up, wait 20 min, open up. Scrub with soft handle brush real lightly. Rinse thoroughly. It. Will look like brand new. Bleach solution will not damage anything. Just rinse real well. Save your money on awning cleaning chemicals.

  • Your rig is in a carport when in storage...that's the best possible thing you could be doing. Once clean and mold free, are you making sure your awning is dry before you roll it up and put your rig under cover?
