I understand you problem exactly! With our old fan, I came up with a piece of 1/2 inch plastic pipe with a cap on one end that we could use to press the on-off switch while sitting on the john. To open and close the vent, I put an elbow on the other end of the pipe, then cut the elbow off so that it would fit the vent crank. However, I replaced that fan with a new vent fan that had a small rotary knob for power and speed, and a big knob to open and close. I used the same piece of pipe, and added a short piece of rubber hose that would fit over the switch knob to rotate that, but have not come up with a solution for the open and close knob yet. Got a couple of ideas, but still not resolved yet.
