Bathroom power vent out of reach

Hello,

Just finishing the prep and testing on my 5th wheel for the season. We picked the 5th wheel up last summer but due to health issues only got to use it once for almost 2 weeks.

The bathroom power vent is out of reach to me as I am vertically challenged.I never tried working the vent until today.

I can use a yard stick to turn it on and off but what can I use to turn the crank to open the vent? Ladders and step stools do not work well for me due to balance issues.

Hope to be on the road soon!

Dave

  • In the past, I've seen knob-replacements that have an eye and you use a hooked crank rod to open the vent. Alternative would be to find an eye-bolt that would fit the knob screw threads and make your own crank rod. I"m going to have to do this with our new KZ.

  • BTW, we usually leave the bath vent open, it has a Maxair cover, so open and closing is not as important as the on-off switch. A piece of left-over plastic and a short piece of rubber hose does the trick cheap.
  • The Kick Stik is a good idea but kinda expensive. A piece of leftover pipe is a lot cheaper and an do the same thing.
  • I understand you problem exactly! With our old fan, I came up with a piece of 1/2 inch plastic pipe with a cap on one end that we could use to press the on-off switch while sitting on the john. To open and close the vent, I put an elbow on the other end of the pipe, then cut the elbow off so that it would fit the vent crank. However, I replaced that fan with a new vent fan that had a small rotary knob for power and speed, and a big knob to open and close. I used the same piece of pipe, and added a short piece of rubber hose that would fit over the switch knob to rotate that, but have not come up with a solution for the open and close knob yet. Got a couple of ideas, but still not resolved yet.
  • try a long handled BBQ FORK
to reach the crank handle and turn it
