Battery Fuse Blows When Plugged Into Shore Power

.

  • The fuse that is blowing is not the fuse that is located in the breaker box in the trailer. That fuse is a 30 amp fuse, and the reverse battery protection fuse is 40 amp. The fuse that I am talking about comes right off of the battery wiring and is in the front of the trailer in the underside (a few inches from the tongue). The trailer is brand new and the fuse that was in there when I originally discovered it was a 20 amp fuse.

The converter is a WFCO. Model- 84435-P
    Panel Input- 120 Vac 60 Hz 30A
    Converter Input- 105-130 Vac 60 Hz 7.5 A 600W
    Converter Output- 13.6 VDC 35 A

I do not know what gauge the wiring is.

    Thanks for all your help!
  • That fuse/ should be AT LEAST 30a if not higher. Most are resettable.
But is the wiring heavy enough to go past 20 amps? To determine the correct fuse size, you must know what the make and model of the converter is, and what gauge wiring is used between the converter and the battery.
  • I don't know anything about your trailer but given your symptoms as I understand you wrote them
    - Low Battery
    - Fuse Blows when converter powered up
    - 20 amp fuse

It is entirely possible (and likely) your converter is supplying and the battery is trying to accept more than 20 amps current flow causing the fuse to blow. 20 amps sounds awful low for a battery fuse. My FW has an auto reset 100 amp breaker (instead of a fuse). I don't think I have ever seen or heard of less than a 50 amp battery fuse but like I said don't know anything about your TT.
