Tplife spends 25% of his time camping in a Class A Alegro (the MountainAire burned up in Georgia, you heard it before) so take beemerphiles advice over my experience, advice, "Rock My RV" apps, etc. and stick with 20th Century lead-acid technology. When you're stuck on stupid, all the advice in the world won't get your out of your tiny PUP to experience what every tent camper knows at 6:00 AM. Seriously, if I wasn't a career science professional, I too would trust my $ on old-school throwaway technology...just something about my training keeps me plugging in my voltmeter and looking for a better way...whew! Glad I did my research - I only learned what I know from this and that "OTHER" website :)
You just don't get it and trying to be insulting won't help.
Your battery works best for you, that is fine and I agree that it is best for you.
What you apparently cannot fathom is that AGM technology is NOT best for everyone nor is it best in every situation or use. As I have stated before, I have Gel, flooded, and AGM batteries. Your primary claim is that AGM technology is ALWAYS best in EVERY use and you are absolutely positively wrong.
BTW I have more than one RV and wayyyy more than one battery. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerAny simple series connection is in the same boat, even a 380 volt battery series string on an old submarine. That's why they had 2 banks forward and two banks aft.

That's why I got 4. :)
I hate the 6volt series configuration also. One cell heads south and your out of business.

Well ... that depends upon whether or not you wanted to be comfortable on cold nights in your tent without being all gussied up in a sleeping bag.tplife wrote:

That's a little steep for even an AGM ($500 for Fullriver 4D's) but I most definitely get your point. Thing is, I don't have an issue with AGMs, they almost ended up as my batteries of choice. My issue is with some of their owners HERE on THIS forum (because none of the AGM owners on other forums act like this). Sometimes this place reminds me of the old Honda forums in the early 2000's.
4D AGM =$890.00 + $85.00 for a box
I quoted a LifeLine 4D AGM. I really would like an AGM, but I have to be realistic about my use and ability to re-charge. I play in Michigan, so I use the batteries all summer then they get stored. Them AGM's win most of my studies. It would kill me to have a $800.00 battery sitting all winter. I hate the 6volt series configuration also. One cell heads south and your out of business.

2 6v Trojan= $320.00
The cost for a little less stratification is very high

- NYCAMPDUDEExplorerLots of great info!!!

Some background info, tplife is a tent camper with a single AGM battery which is used to operate some lights and music. He is convinced that AGM is the only battery worth having and regularly debates the topic on this and another forum I frequent.
His opinion is certainly valid as to what works best for him and makes him happy. I agree that for his use an AGM is best. His battery isn't mounted, is handled frequently and cannot spill.
However you will never convince him that AGM technology is not best for every person and in every situation. He seems to have blinders on, quotes erroneous experts, and is absolutely convinced of his opinion.
What always pushes my buttons is stating things in "absolutes". I know I'm guilty of it, too, but hope I have enough smarts to be corrected and accept it.
Since I have both AGM's and FLA's at work, I guess I'm only half stupid.:B - tplifeExplorerTplife spends 25% of his time camping in a Class A Alegro (the MountainAire burned up in Georgia, you heard it before) so take beemerphiles advice over my experience, advice, "Rock My RV" apps, etc. and stick with 20th Century lead-acid technology.
