Black and Decker VEC1093DBD equivelent

I have the VEC1093DBD smart charger and am very happy with it. I bought it at least 5 years ago. I'm trying to find an equivalent for a friend but can't seem to find one. The VEC isn't made anymore. Any suggestions?

The 40A charge setting is great for a pair of 6V golf cart batteries.

Thanks, Drew
  • Guess what? I just tried to find a vendor for the Stanley and there are none! Go figure!!
  • Transformer boost jump starting requires a ten pound transformer. The transformer provides two extremely different functions.

    1) It charges the battery similar to the high freek charger

    2) It jumps in and actually pushes when the starter is engaged

The high-freek does all that it can then automatically goes off line when the Delta T is exceeded. Not much boost there.

When I lived in the mountains when woolly mammoths roamed, I had a 14 volt booster and a 26 volt booster battery booster setup. Start cranking then close a giant relay. Cannot be done with today's electronics. About the largest CCA starter battery is a high plate count BCI group 65 battery which will accept a max bulk of around 48 amps. Silly to have a high-freek charger larger than that except where dual engine start batteries are employed.

What happens when a HF charger exceeds it's amperage potential? This is worth pondering...when boost starting is involved.

When Walmart stopped carrying it I bought it at Big Lots for $50. Some marine stores still carry them. As a previous poster said Stanley bought out B&D and makes a 40 amp charger that is suppose to be better according to an engineer that I talked to at Stanley. The Stanley 40 amp charger is more expensive but is suppose to have better charging algorithms.

I have had mine since 2009 and still going strong. I just ran the part number on the internet and found it listed on AMAZON, LOWES, WALMART with photos and specs info etc but everyone of them says NOT AVAILABLE.... Kinda strange they still carrying it on-line if it is not available anymore. Guess it is there for spec listing...

Perhaps you can find one on EBAY somewhere...

I think Stanley bought/merged with B&D a few years back.
I picked up a BC8S Stanley FatMaxx battery charger/maintainer at Walmart US and have had good luck with it keeping all sorts of batteries charged up. It doesn't have the starting feature, just charge/maintain.

Maybe there's a Stanley branded replacement for the exact unit you're looking for?
