Boliy generator?

Me, I am trying to get better at standing up for myself and calling people on it when they go too far -- but now I regret grouching back at you!

I went and looked at the Baliy (before I saw Pianotuna's post). Short version: I didn't buy it, although I did not rule it out.

Longer version: It started fine the first 3 times, and maybe the sixth time. Other time, including the last 5 or 6, we tried to start it and it got very close but not quite. It seemed to miss a bit when running, but none of the 3 of us (seller, me, and my dad who went with me) knew enough to know if that was normal. It ran my freezer and microwave happily. It is louder than my van idling (!).

Seller said the gas in it was two years old, except the half gallon he topped it off with , and he felt sure it just needed fresh gas, spark plug cleaning and maybe carb. I said well, do you wanna do that and call me? He said he would.

I did not notice rusted screws but I didn't look at them. It was a zillion degrees in seller's driveway. He seemed like a good honest guy, talked openly about why a Honda might be better for me.

It never rains but it pours -- there are now two local Hondas for sale! I will check them out.

One thing I learned from the Baliy is I definitely need electric start. Anybody know how reliable the electric add-on kits are for Hondas? Pianotuna sounds happy with his Yamaha one.

Naio, I purchase a Boily because my existing Kipor was beginning to fail after ten years of ownership.

Within one week of purchase screws were rusting on the case. Starting was problematic from the get go, and keeping it running was not possible.

When I tried to return it, it had to be in the original large cardboard shipping container, which I no longer had.

I had two excellent technicians attempt to fix it. Finally it started outputting just 80 volts. I sold it at a garage sale for $100.00.

So my objections to the unit are:

a. no real warranty
b. no reliability
c. substandard parts
d. impossible to fix.
e. the start battery is soldered in so it can't be easily replaced
f. no way to jump start the unit
g. remote start worked only after the generator had been started with the key
h. I think (but do not know for certain) that there is no automatic choke when using the remote start

If you wish more information, do a search on postings here that are over one year old.

I'd recommend anything other than boily.

I ended up with the Yamaha 3000 sIEB, to which I added a pinella remote control, once the warranty period had expired.

Sorry about that, my reading comprehension has suffered due to a brain injury I suffered some 12 months ago & over time has become increasingly worse. I don't seem to have the patience I once had, either.

Turns out this Bialy is made in 2013, if that helps. I have about an hour to decide -- that's when my appt is to look at it, and he has other interest. (No I do not think he is lying.)

Yes, I see people everywhere are very happy with Champions. A thousand bucks is so much money, though.

I have had a search running on local CL for the past few months, no luck so far and I need to start relying on a genny a few weeks. This Bialy is the only result so far.

find out how OLD that Boily is ?

it just might be from the same era as PT's was

i have been very happy with my champion purchases

my first one was their little 1200w about 8yrs ago,
then after a year or so got a 3000w, then finally their inverter model
i have a 3000 open frame in storage, keep it for backup, loaned it out a couple of times

Now buy what you can afford & since Honda's & Yamaha's are pretty much out of the budget picture & you need an electric start, search for a Champion 3100W, remote start, new or used.

Champion has excellent customer service, parts are easy to get & they have dealers all across the country.

I decided on generator, due to dog attack that ate up all the time I had this year for solar install. Circumstances change.

Now I am shopping for a genny that I can afford. Before yesterday, I never heard of Boliy.
