BrakeBuddy - Which one should I select???

Earlier this week I sent my BrakeBuddy Classic to the factory for repair. Tech Support told me they would examine the unit and determine the repair cost. Beofre doing the repair they will call me with options. I can pay for the repair or I can trade up to one of the new models.

I'm looking at the Digital Classic and the Vantage Select models. Does anyone here have a preference or some experience feedback with these models that they would like to share?

This will help in making my decision.

Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks for all the good feedback. The repair shop just received my BrakeBuddy yesterday so it will be a few more days before I know if it can be repaired. I had many miles of good use with the Classic model and will most likely go with that model if I have to do an upgrade. I think they said it would cost $650 for the Vantage Select upgrade and $295 for the Digitial Classic.

I let you know the final outcome and prices.

I would not recommend any of them.. They advertise "no installation needed" but that is a lie. You must install it EVERY TIME YOU TOW.

This means that every time you tow you have a chance to make a mistake that can cost you a brake job or worse.. Or to say "OH, too much trouble for this short trip (Also a mistake that can cost you worse).

I much prefer a system which is installed ONCE and from then on just plugged in.

We went with Brake Buddy because of towing two different vehicles. Had a Classic that we sent in for repair after many years use. Your situation may be different since they WILL repair your Classic if you wish. They said ours was not repairable, at least not practically since both compressor and logic board were bad. They offered only trade-up to Vantage Select and we went with that offer. So far so good. Select offers "proportional braking" as an alternative to "full braking" on the Classic. That and an RF remote that lets you change adjustments. I use the Vantage Select in Full mode, and actually liked the Alerts that came with the Classic a little better than the monitor portion of the one with Select. So personally, had they offered Digital Classic at a substantially lower price than Vantage Select, I'd've gone Digital Classic. That said, nothing wrong with Vantage Select.

I would go with the Stealth. It is mounted so it does not interfere with moving the vehicle without removing the unit.
It is similar to the SMI Stay-N-Play that I have.

I had considered the Stealth but eliminated it from my choices because of the extensive first time installation. The Digital Classic and Vantage Select are much easy to install. So for that reason I scratched the Stealth from the list.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
