Thanks, guys!
It looked basically new, only the slightest bit of finish off one set of dies. I bought it for $25.
I didn't think of bringing a lug until I got there. Asked the guy if he had one, but he said he didn't.
I have a lot of trouble with my hands, so even if it's not the best choice for large wires (I'm still unclear on that), I think I will use it on small ones. I have the crimping pliers, but the only way I can use them is to hit the handle with a hammer.
Well that explains why my solder joints are so often terrible.
Those are some very interesting options!
I don't have a torch, but I was wondering on the way home if one of those mini torches people use for illicit drugs would be suitable :-). You know I use my propane camp stove to solder the big lugs so far. Not the most elegant solution.

A correct solder joint has a glossy appearance
A cold soldered joint looks like dried aluminum paint.

I use a Harbor Fright refillable mini torch. Orange and Black. It has a w-i-d-e base for stability. Using a full size propane torch even on the largest battery lugs is a chore. A cheapo HF heat gun is world's easier to use.
