Given the info. from the OP and his lack of understanding of some basic RV electrical matters, it'd be way easier to get a mobile tech. or some other electrician who does have the time.
The RV is 21 years old and any number of things could cause the issue. Before diagnosing anything, I'd probably take a voltmeter and see what the voltage is in the house and in the RV.
This sounds like an easy one to diagnose but needs someone there in person, either an electrician or someone who knows something about 'lectricity... The last thing you want is some connection to overheat or someone to get a shock.
