Can someone tell me how to read this correctly

We are taking a trip for 10 days. We have never taken along a battery before. How do you read the lights on this monitor if we lose electric and have to rely on the battery? When the battery is hooked up the lights are the following colors... C-not lite up... G-Yellow...F- Red ... L-Red... The C is green when the truck is hook up. (We know this means it is charging) but at a loss on the other lights.

go get one of these - it will give you a better state of charge !

    $13.95 INNOVA Plug-in 12vdc Voltmeter

Then print this chart out and keep it in the RV, this will give you a much better indication of what kind of shape your battery is in:

How does your refrigerator work on the road sans battery?

Are you saying that you have never had a battery in place while traveling with your camper? A battery is a MUST inorder for the the brake-away switch to engage your brakes in an emergency. I suggest that you never leave home without a fully charged batter in place for your safety and mine.

PS. Get a voltmeter and ignore those lights on the panel. They are probably just an approximation anyway.
  • Charging
    Good
    Fair
    Low

You would be a lot further ahead using a digital voltage meter rather than those idiot light.

I would get a mulimeter if you don't already have one and check the battery once it is fully charged, 12.6 volts or higher, then see which light corresponds to a fully charged battery. Having said that I would trust the multimeter reading over the light readings which may or may not be accurate. In ten days you will have to recharge your battery somehow if you are dry camping. Do you have just 1 12v battery or 2 6 v batteries connected to make a 12 v?
  • Just a guess: Good, Fair, Low. These lights are just a sort of voltmeter and don't give a very reliable indication of the battery's stare of charge. A real DC voltmeter is a much better indicator.
