Can u put a mobile home HWH in a regular house?

I bought a house in Florida to park my MH on and enjoy the comforts of a house and some land instead of sardine parking at a RV resort for the winter months.

The hot water heater works but is original. I just got a chance on a real good deal for a new small HWH out of a new mobile home.

Can a mobile home hwh be installed into a home? What's the diff?
It's called a speed o matic. Tks.

Mobile (manufactured housing) require a special water heater. Yes you can install a mobile home water heater in a stick built house if it has a draft hood. You can not install a stick built (regular) gas water heater in a mobile home. Mobile home heaters are convertible from natural gas to propane (LP) and have a "sealed" combustion chamber. Meaning that some heaters require the combustion air be drawn in from some where other than the inside of the house.

I just installed a regular gas Water Heater in my mobile home, no problem. Just needed to make sure it fit and all the venting was working probably. It used to be the case that it had to be for a mobile home but not anymore. If fact you will be hard pressed to find a water heater for just a mobile home.

Sure it fits, but go and read the labels on it and you will find one that states that it is not to be installed in manufactured (mobile) housing.

  • Thanks for the info. The house is a block home not a manuf or mobile.

I'm in the process of working on the interior and just don't want to buy a new hot water heater right now until I am completely done remodeling.

Just need some hot water so I can shower in an adult size shower IN the house instead of the MH. The real shower and having hot water for more than 10 minutes being just another one of the perks of buying this place after 6 years of full-timing!

    Thanks again.

  • Mobile home is Not an RV
Mobile home water heater, will be gas or electric, usually electric with No venting, no different than any other "residential water heater"
    Other than size
  • No diff. Just smaller. Might need fitting adaptors on the water pipes if those are smaller too.
