Can you run a 220v A/C unit off a 50 amp service?

this statement is why I purchased this bolt in main breaker.

I am installing this in my car hauler / toy hauler conversion. If I can run it on 220/240 I believe it will be more efficient.

People mod their RVs all the time with stuff not designed by the manufacturer.
Getting 240v is a slam dunk.

I would probably add a subpanel at the cord entrance and pull wire to the split unit. Probably get a quad breaker with 50/20 connection and you are good to go. Worst case you get two breakers.

Subpanel might have to go after the transfer switch if you have a generator that gives 240.

You can only access 240 volts in an RV that has been designed to do so. 90% of RV's are not designed to access 240 volts from the panel. If the main breaker is in the middle of the panel than no, you cannot access 240 volts. If your RV has a 240 volt washer and dryer then yous you can do it.The main breaker will have to be on one end.

Yes, you'll need a 2 pole breaker sized for the air conditioner, of course you'll need a panel that can accept a 2 pole breaker and room to add it.

Buy a 120 volt version. They make them.
