Thank you everyone.
Yes, we usually luck out with free shipping through amazon prime, but if the item is just "free shipping", there is often a charge for anything outside the "lower 48". We tried each of the sellers on amazon and they all charge for shipping to here.
We would like to run electric to it, but our time here is limited because it will soon have to be prepped to sit out the winter months. Eventually it will get too cold to work on it without risking something breaking in the cold.
We did stop by Karens the other day to check it out because we want to eventually get it checked before we take it back down the ALCAN as we head back to Texas next year. We were actually told by someone local today that Karens may actually have that model in stock.
Thank you. The free shipping seems to only apply to a limited number of items when shipping to Alaska.

I'm assuming the high cost is because you are in Anchorage, for me in NC its about $10.

If you can get 12-volts-DC to it, please consider getting the electronic ignition model SW6D. The ease of lighting it and shutting off when the water's hot is well worth the cost. You'll save LPG since you'll tire of getting out to light it on demand. Then there are the times you think you have hot water and find the pilot blew out.
We have SW6DE, electronic plus 120-VAC. We can't use the electric all that often in summer because of all the current draw on our 30A system. Nice but I've found 120 isn't essential.
EDIT: Don't replace Suburban with Attwood. Or vice versa... They require cutting or a cutout adapter.
I don't think the new heater will come with a door. Hopefully the one you have now will fit.
EDIT TWO: Anchorage... Many "free shipping" deals are Lower 48 only. Is Mobile Trailer one of the places you've checked? I've bought there and been pleased. Also heard good about Karen's.

Thanks for the info. I have been trying to find some sort of chart showing older models and what the newer models that match would be and I must have completely overlooked this link.
It looks like the SW6P works for the VRV6X. Thanks again.
170 dollars for shipping on a 250 dollar water heater on amazon. shopping around at rv supply stores gets me about 90 dollars for shipping. yikes.
Here's an SW6P on Amazon for $255 with FREE shipping:
