Champion on sale

The champ 3500/4000 has become the ol' standard due to it's reliability, clean power, fuel efficiency, quiet operation, and cost. You will not find a better bang for the buck even at the free shipping standard Supergen cost of $350. Everyone with a clue knows the 3500 is a synchronous open frame type.

To go inverter type you have the 3100 or 2000.

Me too, but mine came from Cabelas.

One of the best investments Ive ever made. I bet I have over 500 hours on it. Still starts everytime on the 1st pull wether it is -30f or 90f.

We have only camped between 9-10000 ft and out older 3500/4000 runs everything fine. It's easier to run the AC with the converter off but it will do both.

10,000ft is almost camping in the stratosphere! That is somewhat extreme, good that your Champion made it thru. I have a Honda 6500 that purrs all day long, but normally my Yammy can cope with a lot of stuff I throw at it.

Buying a Champion as a back-up for a Yammy! LOL! Now I've seen and heard everything! At that price you might as well buy another back-up for the back-up.

I have both, a Champion 3500/4000 and a Yamaha 2400is and yes, last Fall the stator went bad on my Yamaha and had to be repaired. Took two weeks during the heart of archery season and yes, my Champion was my back up generator! lol

It served the purpose well but I was really glad to get the Yamaha back. The constant noise of the champion, even with a very small load, got really old. The Yamaha just idles with that same load.

For the money, the Champion open frame genny is pretty good, but not in the same league as an inverter style.

nobody said it was the inverter model
The std 3500w, is the open frame model, yes the inverter models are quieter at low loads,
but the std model is not "ear splitting", and Not near as noisy as some people claim
I've had one for about 6 years, I also have the 2000 inverter model, what I use depends on how much power I need,

The Champion 3000 inverter is on my wish list

Yes - that is a synchronous model - runs at constant RPM, as opposed to the inverter type - which are also available from Champion.
(at about 1/2 the price of a Honda or Yam)

Regarding the post by "SWD" who thinks a back-up for a "Yammy" is funny..:S
I have both.
Way easier to get service -and or parts- for the yellow one than the blue (2400is) one.
With the exception of sales, generator "stuff" is WAY down the pecking order at "Yammy" shops..:(

Ahhh - and, the UNinformed -
For "wa8yxm" and the ear plug comments....
Whether red, blue or yellow - the inverter gens will often match the Champion for dbs when they are under load.

Then there's the items (threads) "wa8yxm" omitted regarding noise and the need for (or lack of) earplugs:

Yes they can be *very* quiet - on "the cheap".

"3000W Chinese Gensets Info" - evolved into mostly Champion

Everything you wanted to know about the non-inverter Champion gens,
including propane conversions, making 'em quiet, etc., etc.

Been on here long enough to include long term usage due to past weather incidents (hurricanes, etc.) causing power outage/s.

The price the OP posted is "right in the ballpark" for a good "sale" price.

Yes and no.

Noise aside, The 3500 open-framed model is a decent model and is as low as I would go in price. For $299, if someone had to get a generator on a budget, this would be what to get. The inverter model is near the quad-digits, but for what it is worth, not bad either.

If I had the storage space, I'd probably consider the open-frame as a backup to my Yamaha if going on a long boondocking trip in the Texas summer.
