Changed carburetor, but now have new problem - smoke?

I have an Onan Marquis Gold 7000. Float was bad so I put in a new carburetor. New carburetor installed fine, generator started right up with no problem, producing electricity 118volts @ 62Hz. Runs ...

Have you checked the oil? A bad float could have filled the crankcase with fuel.
