Changing to LED lights

We have resisted changing the lights in our MH to the LED's because of the cost, but are now thinking of changing some of them over to LED's.

Can anybody give me suggestions of where to buy them. I checked CW and they were really expensive.

I found some on E-bay that were a lot cheaper.

I can not give you suggestions as to WHERE to buy, but I can tell you where I have bought.

I have a few of a brand called ECO-LED, I got them at RV dealers, they are expensive but very very good, Brighter than a 1144, close to a 1156 (for the equivlent part) I use the disc shaped ones that shoot sideways to teh socket on a bayonet (1141/1156) socket.

I also have a round job I got from RVbyFred (Fred brandburg) cheaper and every bit as good.

I also have one I got for fifty cents off a close out table.. But that is a "Find".

Now my advice: Shop around and buy JUST ONE lamp assembly from each dealer who's deals you like.. Do not spend more than 15 bucks for a 1141/1156 replacement.

Try it.. I've seen some LED replacements that I'd not give 15¢ for, and some which were if anything BRIGHTER than the 1156 they replaced.

NOTE that the shape of your fixture affects which LED assembly is best as well.

Finally.. Tune in a WEAK FM radio staion and see if the LED wipes it out.

Keep a list of each lamp you buy and where you bought it from.

IF it turns out to be a "Dim bulb" then.

Paper list, BLACK MARKER over the seller's name (Or line thorugh with apen.

Computer list: Strikethrough the seller's name

When you find one you really really like.. BOLD PRINT.
  • Just to clear something up, it is voltage regulators that may cause Radio frequency interference (RFI). All 12v LED lights use resistors to limit the current.
  • Whether one buys expensive LED replacement bulbs, or cheap E-Bay bulbs, I have yet to read that anyone was disappointed or felt it was a waste of time and money.

We bought the cheap E-bay replacements. I got 15 bulbs for $21. If one or more burns out prematurely, so what? So far they are excellent and don't interfere with TV signals because they don't have the resisters. Our biggest motivation was not power savings because we never boon dock. It was heat. Just sitting on the couch with the light on over head you could feel the heat off it from 10 inches away! Now you have to put your hand on the light to feel any heat, which is very little. And our convertor fan barley spins now when we turn on our main lights.
  • I purchased all of my replacement LED bulbs from LEDTrailerLights. So far we've been very pleased with the lights and the vendor was very good to work with.
  • I bought my LED lights from Amazon.com. They were $13.00 for two, very bright, lights.I Bought one package to try them out. I installed them in the MH and found them to be a bright white light, and not the yellow glow of the normal lamp. I ordered two more packages and now have all six ceiling lights installed. All six operating do not draw as much current as just one standard RV light. Get the number off the light in your RV then search for the replacement LED online. I now have Amazon Prime which always gives me free shipping no mater how much I order, and usually better pricing. The brighter the light the more expensive the LED lamp.

I agree. This is where I bought most of my LEDs. I bought some cheaper ones and they were very much inferior. In any case, before you buy a whole bunch of LED lights buy one or two and try them. There are many variables, color, brightness, quality. All venders are not created equal.
  • I bought some cheap warm white ones with multiple base adapters on ebay, 5 for $12.69 including shipping from a US source. Working great and no failures in the 6 months I've used them so far.
  • When deciding to change over lighting to LED's there is more to consider than just the initial added cost.

Personally; I have a 300 AH house-battery-bank. My normal usage over all the years of camping has not lead me to running out of battery capacity. As long as I can get the automotive type of bulbs I have no reason to change.

Also; if you like the advantage of having your television for use for at night or in bad weather, there is the problem of the digital television picture be periodically pixelated by the interference of certain types of LED lights being manufactured.

I can see the need for those camping without shore-power, or seasonal-camping and paying for metered usage. But not worth the hassle for me.
