- MEX, that hairpin alternator picture made me think of the windings in the Chevrolet Bolt electric motor.
- pnicholsExplorer IIMex,
I'm not sure which is worse ... the good old U.S. of A. with it's regulations-absolute ... or the anarchy in MeiHeeKo. One is suffocating, the other is perilous. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerBondocking? Noise complaints? Shirley You Jest! "Boondocking" implies solitude. Fire off a full-clip of an M16 and hit nothing but tree bark or sagebrush.
Hookup-Less Camping, is a horse of a different color. I always consider my neighbors. When overnighting in an RV park with a crack-of-dawn departure, I park as close to the exit as I can. No generator. But then again I have always had an aversion to setting up camp in my living room. But I had to chuckle at the official rules at Englishman Falls B.C.. No running the generator. The place was 100% deserted.
But then that's part of why I bailed-out of the United States. Substitution of Common Sense, with regulations-absolute for senseless people. That's why I placed my generator shed where I did, so the exhaust never, ever, blows toward neighbors, however distant. I asked and they responded. On a dead quiet day even 10-year old children cannot hear my generator from their house. It makes for a 100-meter walk but I was overcome with a fit of Common Sense & Consideration. Even down here, where if a person is quiet, the neighbors will think you're sick, or dead. - azrvingExplorer

Everyone is missing at least one point. You run a truck/generator where we can hear it after suitable quiet time, 11PM works for us, even in a remote boondocking situation, you WILL be shut down....really. Been there, done that.
Does that include Walmart parking lots while overnighting?
Anything goes at Wally world. When the lot is near empty it's just normal to have a mh pull within 20 feet and run the on board genny all night. Not in freezing weather or hot weather. I cant figure it out but I do hate going to WM. - NinerBikesExplorer

- pnicholsExplorer IIMex,
Sorry. Looking under you name I guess I thought that "las penos" or "michoacan" was Mexican for "New" ... to go along with "mexico". P.S. Just kidding.
I guess I've been lucking out so far in that my Ford (3G?) alternator is not feeding a tree yet, considering what it goes through dumping into my AGM batteries after I run them down. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerYou see it - I don't. I can't. I don't want to. I bailed out. Look at my address.

You waited too long to feed a tree. The dumbing down of U.S. industry and it's customers has already long begun. It started with the transfer of the making of things to other places in the world so that stock holders could up their returns hoping none of us U.S. customers would notice ... or care about it if we did notice. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerIt is an industry standard. Unless of course they have started the Herb Tarlek maneuver. It's similar to the Heimlich maneuver but a person first eats for a week without going to the bathroom.
Hairpin stator winding reduces winding temperature with relationship to watts produced. Therefore a 150c rating isn't such a deep slump from ambient.
Why isn't every current alternator hairpin design?
COST
The stator has a LOT more copper. Diodes must be much higher capacity. The diode heatsink has to be more exotic. A much higher rotor field draw increases the cost of a voltage regulator by magnitudes.
The car manufacturer bean counters would get diarrhea at the mere thought of this added "unnecessary" expense.
Remember Nippondenso invented a gear reduction starter motor for big rigs, that...
Delivers twice the cranking power of a Delco
Uses 45% of the wattage of a Delco
Lasts longer
Costs less
And weighs about half that of a 40, 42 or 50MT Delco.
