Click, click, click

From the first time I turned on my TT furnace, I heard click click click from the AC unit. When I called my salesman from CW, all he said was, "at least if it doesn't get worse, then it is probably OK". However, we were out this past weekend and it is pretty annoying. So I googled, "click click dometic AC thermostat" and there are several accounts of this.

I am surprised how easy it was to "fix", and more surprised that this kind of thing is not in a set of FAQs for new RV buyers.

The dometic thermostat has settings that can stop the click click. Press and hold "-" and then press and hold "the select button". Then you will likely see "d1". Press the down arrow to select "d2". This sets the temperature differential that the AC looks for when trying to turn on.

Simple.

Works.

What bothers me is how simple the fix is and how this problem is not automatically addressed during the sales process.

This is good advice for anything you are going to purchase. Do a little research and then ask a few SIMPLE questions on the product. IF the Salesperson cannot answer those questions correctly, they do not have the knowledge they should have on the product. Doug

Thanks Doug - the trailer is new to us. We have been on 3 short trips (within 15 miles of our home) and one longer one. There is an interesting learning curve, that we are enjoying. I.e., how to do this and how to do that.

The clicking was noticeable from the first day. It took me until now (about 3 months after purchase) to get my head around it and Google the problem. There seem to be lots of instance on Google of this issue surfacing.

The reason I entered my findings here was to suggest there must be an easier way to get solutions. My main reason for buying the trailer was to have a nice place to rest and sleep while doing astrophotography (AP) late at night. My experience with AP is such that the smallest amount of help can get the photographer much better results. We have a slogan with AP, "it took us a year".

My hope was to stir discussion about learning curves and enjoyment.

I appreciate your post. There are ALWAYS things I can learn from the Internet. Like I posted, NOBODY has ever posted on a general forum or any of my customers(thousands with the Single zone) have ever had this problem. Someone had to have reprogrammed your wall tstat when they were messing with it. Also, there IS a normal 1 click from the furnace relay on the AC control board when the furnace is called to heat. It is just the relay closing sending the 12 volt signal to the furnace to start heating. Doug

Never ask any salesman a question that you don't already know the answer to.

That is funny - I will add it to my humor file.

The problem with this approach is there is no such thing as a simple question. I am shopping for a new SUV. Even a simple question like "can I get this in white?" is a complicated question with no real answer. Frost white is only available in the base models, pearl white is a $500 option only available in the premium package. You can get Diamond White, but you can't get body colored mirrors. And on and on.
Good idea, I am just not sure it will work.
  • I have a keystone cougar 2015 5th wheel; my ac, furnace, not working; thermostat blinking; tested breakers, fuses, etc. no avail. is there a way to reset this termostat?

There is no real reset for the single zone. Try disconnecting 12 volt power to the RV for 5 minutes. No 120 and disconnect at the battery. The wall tstat responds to the upper AC control board. It requires the full 12 volts to operate correctly. Check the 12 volt voltage to verify the RV has 12.9 plus volts. Doug

    Bafflemwithbullshitthencleantheirclock...

    Today's con artistry in motion.
  • Use a multimeter. One wire will have house battery voltage plus on top of that additional voltage from the converter. I cannot imagine them using two separate feed wires.

BE SURE you have good chassis negative at the switch as well.
  • Those digital thermostats are annoying in some ways. The one on my TT will not turn on the A/C compressor if it sees the temperature is over 110, so I have to blow the RV out with fans and stick a freezer pack near it... then it might just bother to flip the compressor on.

My next rig, my ideal is a good old analog thermostat. You don't need to reset or update the firmware of a bi-metallic spring.
