Coach Batteries not switching on

When I try to turn on the coach batteries they will not come on. I hear a clicking noise when I toggle the switch. When the motor home running, the switch works and powers on. The batteries are charged, showing near 13 volts.

  • OK maybe I misunderstood. 'Coach' battery I assumed was the house battery not the chassis battery.

Whatever the source battery... you need to check voltage and trace it back to the fuse block that distributes power to the accessories.

Not fully clear on what is not working as expected. Could be the house battery is shot. With the chassis engine running the alternator voltage might just run over the house battery to your lights and accessories. Could be a loose house battery terminal. Need to get a meter direct on the terminals.
  • Thanks for the reply. The batteries are not new, not sure how old I would guess 4 years or so. The switch does not stay on when I turn the engine off.

Time2roll, are you talking about the main panel for the rv or for the chassis side of thing?
  • You have an open circuit. Check voltage at the battery and every connection, fuse, breaker, and switch along the way to the main fuse panel. At some point you will find battery voltage on one side and nothing on the other side. Repair, replace, adjust, clean, or tighten that item or connection.
  • Hi,

If it switches on when the engine is running, does it stay on when you turn off the engine?
