Coleman Mach 8 AC and yamaha 2400ishc generator

Hi,

i am considering buying a Trailmanor. It's gonna have an air conditioner.sounds easy so far right.

Because of the way Trailmanors are made and opened they cannot accomodate all air conditioners even though the vent hole is standard 14 by 14. Something about shroud sizes(don't ask).

Anyways they tell me know that the only AC that will fit correctly is the new Coleman MACH 8 13,500.

I wanted to install either a Polar cub 9200 or one of the High Efficiency units of either Coleman or Dometic. No go. they would have worked with smaller generators.

My question is this. Does anybody have a Coleman Mach 8 13,500 air conditoner.these are NOT the Mach 3 that has been around for many years. this is the newer Mach 8.

Does anybody use one with a portable generator. what size?

I was hoping to use a Yamaha 2400ishc as opposed to 2 Honda 2000.

anybody know.

thanks in advance

Should have a device to get that 88-108 Start Cap OUT of the circuit once the compressor's spooled up close to operating speed. Coleman offers a Start Relay or a Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistor (PTCR), depending on Model, sometimes offers a choice. Chris Bryant says the Coleman Start Relay works better than a SUPCO SPP6E (for Electronic) start kit (cap + electronics in one housing. And the SPP6E is better than the Coleman Cap + PTCR setup or the SUPCO SPP6 (no "E") that's also Cap + PTCR but all in one housing. Dometic sells a start kit that Chris says is THE best, but I know nothing about it or if it would interface with Coleman.
I'd be interested in the Amps Draw specs for Mach 8 and the ordinary 13500. Could you post the complete Mach 8 model number? I'd love to look at the parts list and see those two motors!

i'm going to start links in steps

    linky1

    linky2

    linky3 parts

has 2 motors listed as id and od. elsewhere it says 2 motors indoor and outdoor. I have not a clue

itappears that the polar cub is actually the Mach 8 9200 btu model

    linky4

basedon this it appears the start kit is a ptcr and capacitor

    linky 5

this says the starter pack is a hard start kit. this is part number on mach 8 list

As only a GUESS, this sounds do-able. To second-guess my guess, I understand Yammie 2400 to be a true 2400 continuous with still higher surge, while Honda 2000 is realistically more like 1600 continuous.

What I'd like to add is this - From other threads, I've learned that at least some RV builders order their A/C with "hard start kits" because they believe the RV (usually a Class C or Truck Camper) will have a Generator and a Generator will need help. That can leave Travel Trailers out in the cold (well, er, Heat, I suppose...) since the premise is they don't come with a generator so they just must be getting plugged into shore tie. Then you guys come along and want to run with a portable generator. That might mean the A/C a trailer comes with, let alone one you might buy, will not have the Kit. The Coleman (rvcomfort.com) site should have the Parts List and Wiring Diagram for the A/C you're considering. Parts List'll show the Start Relay and Start Capacitor as if they're installed even if they are not. Wiring Diagram will show two dotted lines to the Compressor Run Capacitor, dotted because it's an Option that may not actually be there.

My GUESS stands: 2400 Generator and 13500 A/C With Start Kit should run, but it'll be Load Shedding. A/C off to run Microwave, etc. Our Coleman Mach 15000 needs to be OFF for Load Shedding about 5 minutes before it'll re-start. That's at least under low campground voltage situations.

thanks for info. I plan on mostly being in campgrounds. However i have a wife and 2 cats that will yammer at me if i don't keep them cool in all situations. :B

it has a start capicitor 88-108 mfd/165v. i am investigating. the Mach 8 has dual motors.

You mean the 13.5K Mach 8 that's almost double the price of the 13.5K Mach 3?

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you since I'm running the older version Mach 3 with my Yamaha 2400ishc.

if i want a trailmanor and an air conditioner-Mach 8

however i will look at locked rotor amps of Mach 3. if they are the same as Mach 8 it might give me answer .

Ps. is yours Mach 3 PS(power saver) or original-they are different.

    i checked.

    Mach 3 14.4 amps. Mach 3 power saver 10.5 amps Mach 8 12.2 amps.

I guess i need to know if anyone runs Mach 3(or Mach 3 Plus-14.4amps) with honda 2400ishc.

Ps. the price of MACH 8 is about 150.00 dollars more(800.00)

Ps. also did you need to have hard start capacitor installed

ps. Locked roter amps Mach 3 power saver 58.4amps.
locked roter amps Mach 3 Plus 63amps.
locked roter amps Mach 8 63 amps.
  • Something to consider beyond the generator issue. If the sizing is so critical with the A/C on the Trailmanor, what is going to happen when you need to replace your A/C and a unit that size is no longer available?

It could happen. Carrier made RV A/C's for years and one day decided to drop production, all support and parts.
