Cummins or Airtex Fuel Pump for Onan Genny?

Hello i think the Onan 5500 Gold Marquis genny needs a fuel pump. Original is Onan No 149-2620. Google searching keeps bringing me to threads on this forum. But im still confused on what to buy.

Is the cummins AO29F887 fuel pump known to have the same issues?
Is the Airtex brand the same exact part made in the same factory? (i read someone say it looks identical)

I can post a better picture of the fuel pump later. Im not sure which AirTex model is correct. E11015 comes up a lot.. Going off memory i thought the exit has a 90 degree turn. Trying to get a picture of the original pump sent to me, so i can post it here.

  • The problem that I have read about is, the gen set runs for 20-30 minutes, then shuts off. After a period of time, you can restart the process. Changing the fuel pump seemed to have alleviated the problem.

The problem I am having is extended crank time to start the gen set. This happened after a complete tuneup with OEM parts. Im thinking the fuel pump may be the issue.

After research, I have found the same numbers as you. You can get the airtex pump at rockauto as well as amazon.
I am tempted to try the airtex pump.

You don't need a Regulator, if you get a Pump with the "Low Pressure" rating. Such as the ones designated for an ONAN application.

    Yours has a Carburetor, yes?

I ask because I found a manual for the model and spec shown in your pic. Those generators had fuel injection and a 45 psi spec for pump pressure. Doesn't sound like what you're working on...
  • I installed the airtex (amazon) about year ago. Believe just had to switch polarity on connectors? working fine.Easy install.
  • Thanks!! My friend was just saying if he needed another fuel pump he would go with a generic facet and a regulator.

Heres another picture. Are people buying the E11015 and then a 90degree adapter from the hardware store? I see pictures of some AirTex with the 90*, but different wire connectors. Havnt check all the specs to compare yet.

Definitely want a regulator. This9710 was linked on a different thread from 2010. Any other popular options these days?

When I gOOgle the number on the pump in your pic, I get a hit on Amazon where a user said Airtex E11015 was direct replacement and worked for him. I was going to suggest a Purolator/Facet generic, but you'll pay less for the Airtex and be able to stick it right in without any jury rigging. This is the Purolator/Facet catalog. I think ONAN wants a pump that's positive fuel shutoff when not running.
