- Sez_Hoo_ExplorerWhere can I find out where it says that the permanently mounted propane tank on my Class A does not need to be recertified.
- JimBollmanExplorerI try to watch the dates and when they get close or the tank looks a little nasty I go for an exchange tank and pay a little extra than just refilling. Check the date on the one you are exchanging for that it has a few years on it, I have seen expired dates in the rack.
- SaltiDawgExplorerNo one else call them a Propane "Bottle?"
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIMany people (myslef included) call a portable Propane Cylinder a Propane tank.
Generally the date is in plain english and is on the collar that is around the valve,, or it may be stamped near the valve
on a FIXED propane tank, such as my 100 pound tank on my Class A.. You may ignore it.. Oh there is one,, (I would have to search) but there is no need for recertification so it's meaningless. Mounted tanks only need to be inspected,, if you see a whole lot of rust.. Clean and re-paint.. (If it's just surface rust that is) If there is deep pitting, have a pro look at it.
But it only needs professional attention when it fails the visual inspection.
Luggable tanks like my 20 pound "Emergency tank" need regular professional inspection and recertification. - johntankExplorer

Propane TANK...........non issue. They are NOT required to be re-certified.
Propane CYLINDER.......re-certification required 12 yrs AFTER date of mfg.
Date of mfg. is stamped on safety collar
Propane info
Propane CYLINDER.......re-certification required 12 years AFTER date of mfg.
This is not true on all I have 2 cylinders made by BernzOmatic that stated to be re-certified at 10 years, yes it was stamped on the collar. One other thing I can think of is, it is a 5 year certification if their is a E stamped after the date of the re-certification.
I just had these 2 cylinders re-certified with in the last two weeks.
That is the MFGs re-certification requirement which can be less than DOT requirement but NOT more than DOT requirement.
'E' indicates 5 year
'S' indicates 7 year
'RIN Mark' indicates 12 year
Thanks Old-Biscuit,
I think this info. is good for all of us with older cylinders that have been rectified to know. Thanks again. John - LynnmorExplorerI just look for rust then stamp on numbers that makes them happy. :W
- aruba5erExplorerEvery time I have my tanks filled, they look at the ring and see something and proceed to fill the tanks. What did they look for? I know the date is on them. The date is 12/02 which means they were built in Dec 2002. Nobody cares around here and the time before I filled up at a U Haul in Florida. Never looked twice. I really think this is a non-issue. that somebody is doing a lot of worrying about. Could be wrong, but not usually. Tanks are in a fiver away from weather so no rust or dents. Look like new.

Ended up buying new ones from Home Depot on line for $62.49 each with free shipping. Good for another 12 years.
