Delaminating Windshield

We have a large diesel motorhome with a very large windshield. We've just had it replaced for the third time due to damage occurring during long trips, but this time I noticed a spot of delamination at the bottom of the windshield and I had the installers stop the installation process until I can find out if that's likely to spread. Right now it's only a few square inches, but if it's likely to spread much, I don't want to sign off on this windshield.

  • Well, they gave me a written warranty so that if the lamination separation grows enough to be noticeable when driving, I get a new windshield installed for free. Initially there was a little growth that could be observed only from outside, but after a couple of thousand miles, there's been no additional growth so far. The warranty is for 5 years, and I've been through three windshields in that time, so I don't expect growth past 5 years to be a problem.

Nor would I. Good thing you were there to look at it. I imagine it carries a warranty, but I also imagine the glass company would work hard to try and prove it was somehow your fault.
