directv home and rv one account

I just got off the phone with an agent with Directv. I was told by the tech that wired my Winegard Satellite dish to tell them that I wanted a Genie and a client. When I talked to the agent on the phone I told them just that and the agent told me I couldn't have a genie because I already have one in the house. If I tell them I am going to put them in the RV they will try to put them on a separate account and I don't want that. Have any of you ran into this and if so how did you approach it?

  • If you read carefully, Bill, that's exactly what I said... Your son CANNOT watch a receiver in his house on your account. That is wrong. What I DID say is that if you have a receiver in your house that someone is watching at the same time you are watching in your RV, that is NOT wrong. I'm NOT OK with sharing receivers with your neighbors or anyone else. Read my post again.
  • OK. If you don't live with your adult son who is watching TV at his house and you are watching TV in your RV or your home then you are committing what is called Theft of Services and it is illegal. ALL receivers on any account must be used in a single household or in the RV owned by the person registered at that address.
Many folks don't consider it theft but it's no different than buying 3 receivers and handing them out to your neighbors so 3 households can share 1 bill.
You may be OK with that and that's OK. That doesn't make it right but then we have become a society where it's OK to steal if we can get away with it.

I have to disagree with this statement. I'm paying for satellite service. I have 4 receivers plus a Genie client. I can have 5 people all watching different shows at the same time. If everyone watching is a member of the same household, it doesn't matter where the receivers are being watched.

I can see what you're saying - if you have your adult son's receiver on your account and he's watching it from wherever he lives, that's wrong. But for me to watch my TV, camping, while someone who lives with me is at home watching TV, that's not wrong.
  • DTV will not allow 2 Genies on the same account. The main reason is that the home antenna cannot support the 10 tuners you would have with 2 Genies. You can, however, simply move the Genie from the home to the RV when you travel. If you are going to have folks at home watching TV and you will be on the road watching TV then you should be paying for 2 accounts anyway.
  • Nadkaw1957 X2 that is what I did. DTV even installed an extra dish for my RV storage garage.
  • I have an R22 DVR that I keep in the trailer at all times. It's connected to my HD SWM dish while at home and records all the same programming I record on my Genie in the house. When I get to a campground, I set up my portable dish, set up the DVR for SD programming and I have both recorded TV and live TV. DirecTV charges me $5 a month for the extra DVR. They know where the receiver is and that it stays in the trailer. Just ask them for a standard receiver.
  • I ordered two mini genies for the RV when we had the satellite dish installed. They added to our account.

They will not do that. That is what the OP already tried. They will only supply another client which is worthless in the RV.

You will have to purchase a standalone like an HR24, but make sure they will add to your home account before you do.
