Consider this from an OP here on RV.net who was troubleshooting his air conditioner:

"I used a Mastech MS2108 (not the MS2108A which is not True-RMS or inrush current capable). ~$64 on Amazon. No, not a Fluke, but for 90% of folks out there a pretty good bang for the buck."

I looked at Amazon and it seems the present model might be MS2109A
  • I just purchased a Hantek ac/dc clamp from ebay. About same cost as listed here. You get more buyer protection with ebay.

The clamp plugs into a voltmeter to read current. This is great for me as I want to do data logging. You can't do that with a self contained meter.

  • Small sites are counterfeit ground zero. Legitimate claims of fraud would doom an internet site faster than retracting a wet ----.

It's all E CAVEAT EMPTOR anyway. A MAGIC SUNSHINE branded oscilloscope can easily turn out to be a colonoscope. Or on the other hand SENSEN shock absorbers can turn out to be GABRIEL gas shocks at half the price. Outsourcing has turned the marketplace into a zoo. Some iron clad no-no's:

Buying anything larger than 22 gauge wire outside the USA. Chinese bolts and bearings are damaged beyond repair before they hit the shipping dock. Wire terminals too. I'll give a report on made in HANGDONG 4:1 adhesive lined heat shrink tubing performance once I get my greasy mitts on several hundred feet of various sizes I ordered.
  • You really believe it's a gen-u-wine Fluke? Dunno, it's so easy for them to copy stuff nowadays...

Hey Mex - I see a couple of interesting DC CLAMP ON AMPMETTERS in the list... Might just take a closer look...

I had one of those SEARS CRAFTSMAN 400A AC/DC clamp-on meters ($69) for a long time and can't find it anymore. I probably left it on a tree stump out camping in the woods somewhere...

Always neat to know how many amps you are pulling from the battery bank as well as how many DC amps are being demanded when being charged.

I did manage to keep a couple of the good ole FLUKE Mdl 77 multi-meters from my working days... Thank goodness they both have the nice rubberized protection cases... These have to be around 20 years old - maybe older...

I know I use one of them everyday doing something... One in my truck and the other one here in the house...
