Yes and no. I don't use it on my truck tires, chances of flat/damage to tire with these is minimal.
I do use it on my trailer tires and mercedes with 40 series tires. and it paid off. Hit an expose water main cover and blew a front tire on the benz, a bulge in the rear. Middle of knowwhere (well montana) Called discount tire. No store nearby but they checked around the town I was in and couldn't find anyone with the same tire I had. The said we can overnight tires to you, (well fri pm so they would arrive monday am) to a store in town. for installation. Well I needed to leave on sunday, that option out. OK then you can buy two new tires to replace the two damaged, any brand, same speed rating etc. When you return we will cut you a check for the tires and installation and install replacements for the tires you had. So I bought two new tires and they cut me a check when I came back and installed new replacements for the tires I had. So for $32 I had tires costing about $200 each replaced. Not bad. paid off. BTW they didn't require me to return the damaged tires, I just took pictures.
Last fall DW picked up a sidewall nail in one of the 40 series tires, same thing replaced it with a brand new tire for free.
And I got it when I purchased my Maxxis TT tires. Asked them if the same procedure would occur in case of a flat that the replacements would be Maxxis LRE and if in the middle of knowwhere I could get whatever I could find and they would replace when I returned. Answer was yes.
So, for my TT tires and low profile I figure it is worth it. For my truck, nope.
