Dometic Brisk II A/C problems?

Not sure where to post this at. I'm sure someone will move it if needed.

We have a 2014 Work and Play 30wrs that we have about a year now and in the first few months we owned it, the A/C unit had to be replaced twice. Both times it seemed to have lost it's charge and would blow out nothing but hot air. All of them (Including the current one) seem to shut the blower off for a few seconds while the compressor remains running.

I was wondering if anyone else has this A/C and has had any problems with it?

This last one still seems to work well so far, other than the problem where the blower motor shuts off.

Thanks, Tom
  • RVP and Dometic are the only REAL major suppliers of RV AC units. They have the majority of the market and have for 40 years. The Brisk 11 is a common AC unit. Being on your 3rd? That is extremely unusual and I would suspect that the others were not diagnosed properly or not installed properly. As to your current problem, THAT is a control issue and while Dometic makes the control box and the Tstat, it is NOT part of the Brisk Air itself. Those 2 parts are not replaced when the roof top unit is replaced. This leads me to believe that they replaced the previous units(were good) because they lacked the skills to diagnose the real problem. Explain the blower motor shut off better. Does it shut OFF and then come back ON or does it shut OFF and then a few seconds later the compressor shuts off? Which Tstat do you have? Dometic makes a few different ones. Is the tstat fan on AUTO instead of Hi or Lo(med if you have a med)? Doug
  • So I guess from the lack of responses here that nobody has had problems with this A/C unit or not many have this unit yet.

And.. Yes Doug, both of the units were bad. They both leaked out there charge. I have worked on A/C systems for 25 years and there is no doubt in my mind that they were bad. I'm not sure where the leaks were or what caused them, but I do know that the charge had leaked out.

As far as the other issue, the blower motor shuts off and comes right back on a few seconds later. I've seen it do it once during a cycle and then several times during another cycle. It does always come back and complete the cycle until the thermostat shuts it off when it reaches temperature. It doesn't seem to be a big deal right now, I was just curious if anyone else has seen this.

  • And it just keeps getting better and better.

We just got back from a week in the toy hauler and the 3rd a/c unit is now acting up with a new problem. :-(

Now after it reaches temperature and it cycles to maintain the temperature, the blower motor comes on and the compressor doesn't. So it shuts off for a few seconds and keeps doing this until the compressor finally kicks on and cools it down.
  • By the way, I talked to my dealer and he has a call into Dometic to see what they have to say about it.

I can't believe that I am the only one that has had problems with this unit.
  • Tom,
I am adding a 2nd ac to our 38ft Pride 5ver and have decided on the Brisk II due it claim of lower sound level when operating. It will be in our bedroom.
I was told that this A/C when turned on, has the fan run continuously and the compressor will cycle on and off only. I will not have it connected to a separate tstat only the units built in controls.

So, I am expecting this to run continuously with a slight noise increase when the comp turn on.

This does not sound like anything You are experiencing?? So, I was just curious.
Does the tstat make the difference in its operation?

    Thanks
    Randy
