While your home refrigerator has a compressor to compress the cooling medium; RV refrigerators use the absorption method. The fluid is heated either by propane or an electric heater and turns to gas. The gas rises up the tubes, cools and turns back to a liquid absorbing heat. The liquid falls by gravity back to the bottom and is reheated and the cycle repeats. There are no pumps involved. Off level and the fluid does not have a straight flow back through the tubing.
