Dometic RM2611-Refer, no cooling

Cooling was diminishing on AC and on gas since last year. It finally quit this Spring for the most part with the 'fins' in the freezer slightly cool. When I try to run it on gas the burner lights so it seems that the problem might not be the board. Help needed before I start buying parts I don't need.
  • Thanks a lot for the replies. Unfortunately, that was my conclusion also but didn't want to hint at it. I replaced the cooling unit 5-7 years ago but it wasn't cheap. Hoping to score a used refer from a friend for $200-300. Another neighbor might give away his old junker 5th wheel and that's a possibility...
  • I have the same fridge that just quit this year. It heats on gas and electric, but all I get is a gurgling sound from the cooling unit. I have been told that I need to replace the cooling unit but I'm a little hesitant to spend that much on a fridge that is nearly 20 years old. Thinking of replacing with small household unit, but still undecided. Keep us posted as to your outcome and what you do to solve the problem. Thanks.
  • I had an RM2611 for years, they are an excellent fridge. It looks like you've pretty much narrowed the problem down to the cooling unit. Just to be sure, disconnect the leads of the heating element and measure the resistance, which should be about 48 ohms. Then hot-wire the element by connecting the leads to the end of an electrical cord and plugging it directly to AC. Wait about 24 hours and if the unit doesn't cool, you need a new cooling unit. It's not that difficult to replace them yourself. I've done business with David Force of RV Cooling Unit Warehouse. You can contact him and he will help you with the right unit. Good luck with your repairs, and by the way, welcome to the forums!!
