Sold in hardware, Paint, and selected other stores as Shellac Thinner
It's pure (or so it should be) alcohol. Also sold for alcohol heaters (more pure than the paint store product) Burns real nasty though. Trust me.. I know.
(Clear flame, hard to see but still cooks you well. Burn Units are a branch of ICU.. No need to ask how I know.. been there.. Done that).
Good thing is it burns clean (Water and CO2 are the byproducts of combustion) - LynnmorExplorerThere is naturally occurring methane gas in swamps, but I think we should now call E15 "swamp gas" to better define what it is.

It's all about the first Tuesday in November!- PaulJ2Explorer2001 Prius. When our state started using ethanol MPG immediately went from 50 mpg to 46 mpg weekly average driving to work, same route, same time every day.
Ethanol slows the fuel burn rate "flame spread". Similar to late ignition timing effect. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerAnd sending hundreds of tons of fertilizer and pesticide down the Mississippi River. But this is a north of the border issue. I'll keep smiling with 100% used dinosaurs. And frowning at the increased price of USA sweet corn for eating.
The threat of a nationwide strike would get Washingmachine's attention -- such a movement would have had a chance 50 years ago but Americans today are focused solely how not to lose a cent of their accumulated "wealth".

It'll work ok in newer cars and trucks. Not so great for certain generators -- my Honda 2000 hates ethanol. It is a full time job keeping those carb jets clean -- fuel additives, running the gen under load once a month, draining the carb every time I use it. Fun!!
And the irony is that I almost never use the gen for real. We just got back from a month of camping in the Rockies. My 120 watt portable solar panel kept us topped up every day -- the generator sat in the back of the truck, waiting for a long cloudy spell that never came.
I think we can add a fuel cutoff valve to our 2000's and run it out of fuel before we use the original shut down procedure. That would circumvent the manual carb. drain.
The “off” switch on the Honda is a fuel cutoff but it also cuts off the ignition. The workaround is to disconnect the wire from it so it runs out of gas. Some have installed a switch do you can disconnect only when you want to run the fuel out.
Sorry for the off topic. I’m with the “Ethanol is a boondoggle” camp. - rexlionExplorerThe problem with ethanol that no one realizes is, we are burning up our farmland's trace mineral content for fuel. Macro and micro minerals are essential for good health. Vitamins and minerals are needed together in human cells, in complex relationships, to produce certain vital enzymes. But a study done 2 or 3 decades ago showed that the average micromineral content is reduced about 4% per year by crop production. That means less iron, manganese, chromium, etc in our foods. Farmers add back N, P, K and not much more. To further deplete our resources just to make inferior fuel seems unconscionable to me, and I have written the WH to say so.

There is a "Famous" test done by Mercury Motors (Outboard motors) where they ran some of their product for as I recall 300 hours on either Pure Gasoline or E-15.
OF the test engines all but one completed the 300 Hr Run
The Pure Gasolines showed what they expected for 300 hours
The E-15's were seriously damaged way beyond the Pure Product and the one that did not make it... E-15.. THis stuff scares me
I would like to see that data because I don't believe it.
Well, maybe on a 2 stroke outboard !
