Electric Blanket ?

Is there such a thing today, as an electric blanket that works properly, like you can feel the heat, or are they all a waste of money.

Was reading a good while back & a member was stating electric blankets were different today, something about old folks & them not knowing they are burning themself, so the blankets of today are safety type blankets.
Anybody know.
Thanks, Neil
  • We use an electric blanket with dual controls. For the same reason we have a Sleep Number bed in the TT with two separate adjustable sections.

Because what is great for me - is too warm or too cold / too soft or too hard for her.

(No the Sleep Number bed didn't come with the trailer - we took it out of the house and I installed it in the TT. Not difficult.)
  • We have heated mattress pads on every bed, both in the S&B plus the RV. Works great and keeps you warm.
  • A heated mattress pad is what I use. Much better for me than an electric blanket because I tend to wrap the blankets around me and generally mess up the blankets.

I did some online research and decided on the "soft heat" brand of mattress pads. After using it in the TT for some cold weather trips I got one for home also. Dual controls - his and hers.

After using it at home for a few nights I told my DW I was feeling guilty for using it because it is so wonderful. She laughed.

  • We use this 12 volt electric blanket draped across the foot of the bed, in our MH. In 30 minutes, it heats the foot of the bed nice and warm. It's too hot to leave on all night.

  • We have a Biddeford electric blanket that works well. Could probable bake a potato with the setting on HI. :B Mostly use the # 1 or 2 setting with a light blanket on top. Settings are 1 thru 8, then HI.

If this ever fails, we want a electric mattress pad. Looks like it would work better as heat travels up.
  • I guess an electric blanket would be OK (had one when I was a kid) but I prefer an electric mattress heating pad on top of the mattress cover.
