Electrical

I own a 2008 Puma Palomino travel trailer . Recently I've been having an electrical issue. My trailer runs out of power without blowing fuses or a breaker. If I unplug it and plug back it in it will work for a while and then lose power again. The outlet has already been professionally redone and still the same result. So I was told the issue has to be internal. Any suggestions?

  • I am guessing that you are running out of battery power. What I suspect is happening is you have a loose connection from the converter to the battery. I found mine in the negative terminal at the converter.

When you unplug the connection cools, then when you plug in a little power gets through to the battery, but then the bad connection heats up and sputters and the converter puts out full power, but the loose connection is just like a load, and takes all the power, leaving nothing to charge the battery or power the internals.

Check with your meter at the converter to see what the voltage is on the converter output, then at the battery. They should be almost the same. If they are not, the power is not getting through, either the negative or the positive lead to the battery, and the battery level keeps dropping.

    As mentioned, couple of things.

    Please define:

"My trailer runs out of power without blowing fuses or a breaker"

"If I unplug it and plug back it in it will work for a while and then lose power again"

The outlet has already been professionally redone

From the sounds of it, and only assuming here as there really is not nearly enough information, I would guess the OP is referring to plugging into shore power and losing 110 AC electrical. If that is the case to where you are losing ALL of the 110 AC, then most likely you are faced with an issue from where the TT is plugged into shore power to the Distribution Panel.

But do yourself a favor, be specific in what is working and what is not working and what has been looked at, repaired, etc... as much specific info as possible will help those trying to help you.
  • If you are talking about your 12 VDC side, it might just be an over heated auto-reset breaker.

If it is the 120 VAC side, you are going to have a little more problem finding the culprit but not to difficult.

Here is a typical 30A Power Distribution layout. Might help you identify what is not working...

You basically have two distributions of power 120VAC from your circuit breakers and 12VDC from your fuse panel...

  • What do you mean "running out of power"?? What is not working?? 12 volt or 110 volt??
