I keep track of vessels I repaired forty years ago. The Kelley II for instance has 33-years on her and the original Cole-Hersee lever-type battery disconnects. It's really something to have a chintzy setup cause YET ANOTHER needless problem. Power connection inside a rig needs to be durable. And a cheap solenoid does not cut it. Take a look on eBay for DC/DC solid state 40-amp relays. No disassembly, no filing contacts, no periodic lube-job. This is nuts. We have folks here that gripe about battery maintenance yet they think a gyro-gearloose toy disconnect is mandatory.
How OFTEN in days, no, make that weeks or months do you folks switch your batteries on and off? For jump starting a Four Dollar Ford Starter-solenoid is impossible to beat, reliability wise. Forget price. Gizmo solenoids are garbage compared to the old-fashioned Ford solenoids for engine starting paralleling bank-to-bank.
I can see how I would start out with a new rig - with a hedge trimmer and ten yard dumpster.
